Unity in Action
I will miss you all this Sunday, as I will be preaching at Broad Street Church of Christ in LaGrange. We have been blessed by an ongoing connection with Broadstreet for many years, and Evan Kirby (Preaching Minister) spoke at our summer series this past year. He is becoming a friend and a ministry mentor. He and his wife will be away for some time together and he asked if I would help in his absence.
For me, it was easy to say yes when asked. I want to promote unity among the body, especially with a congregation that we have been connected with for some time. It’s one thing to preach about unity, but another altogether to act it out.
I want to encourage you BACK to Ephesians 4. I want to encourage you back to a mature faith, one that is not thrown around by various teachings, doctrines, and crafty or deceitful schemes. A faith that isn’t swayed by every passionately worded Facebook post or newest pop Christian book. A faith that acts out the belief of a unified body.
Specifically, I want to encourage you to live in the call of Ephesians 4:1-4. Humility. Gentleness. Patience. Bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain unity in the Spirit. Are you EAGER to fight for unity among the body? Are you EAGER to promote peace? Remember, there is only one body, so we need to protect and care for each and every part!
