People and churches don’t always lose their faith and zeal for
righteousness because of this or that wrong doctrine, or even through the encroachments of worldliness—but first by not maintaining the highest possible view of the inspiration and authority of Scripture. As long as Christians bow to the Bible’s authority, they won’t be drawn away by new or old heresies or settle for anything short of the Biblical standard of holiness for their lives. He who esteems that Holy Book will “hate every false way,” will appeal to “the law and the testimony” for every doctrine (Isaiah 8:20), and will fiercely guard the truths of Scripture against its enemies. Subtle doubts about the adequacy of God’s Word are being insinuated into the writings of many popular Christian authors today. That battle will soon come to local churches. If we yield a yard of ground on that, we’ll lose the war.

Blessings, Richard
